Students will think about roles of alternative media and the forms it should take from perspective of citizen society. Students will be interested in alternative journalism.
In this class, students will first grasp meaning of alternative media before being introduced to theoretical concepts of grassroot social movement and multi-culturalism. In the second half, students will be introduced to Japanese and overseas cases with different social thinking or purpose. Students will discuss specific results or goals each of them has achieved. Finally, students will show circular relationship between theoretical concept and actual condition, while checking off remaining subjects.

市民社会の視点からオルタナティブ・メディアの果たすべき機能、そしてあるべき姿を考えられるようになること。オルタナティブ・ジャーナリズムへ関心をもつようになり、考察に必要な基本概念を身につけること。
Students will think about roles of alternative media and the forms it should take from perspective of citizen society. Students will be interested in alternative journalism.
授業ではまずオルタナティブ・メディアの意味を把握し、マスメディアの課題を共有する。次に草の根社会運動、公共圏、多文化主義などの関連理論や概念の紹介を行う。後半では社会的実験として行われた国内外の事例（ケース）を紹介し、それぞれが成し遂げた目標と成果を具体的に検討し、ディスカッションしていく。最後に理論概念と実態との往還の関係を示し、残された課題を確認する。
