【Course Objectives】

Students will read literature containing multicultural perspectives such as minority, ethnicity, gender, and so on. Students will be able to think and analyze current state of modern society and media.

【Course Contents】

In this seminar, students will read major literature on multiculturalism and mass media, watch documentaries, make presentations, and discuss to deepen their awareness.
Students will explore current state of media and journalism in modern Japanese society through keywords such as multicultural coexistence, person involved, community, region, gender, ethnicity, and diaspora. Students will discuss about these issues during the seminar and grasp core of the issue.
In autumn semester, students will form groups and conduct surveys. Each group will decide a subject. Students are supposed to collect and analyze data based on their research interests and finish survey reports before the end of the semester.
