This course consists of a one-month overseas study program and preliminary research in Tokyo. By the end of the course, students should:
1. Develop perspectives in understanding the lifestyles and social issues in different cultures.
2. Explain own thoughts through presentations and discussions in English.
The program comprises English language classroom instruction in Australia, and lectures on global sociology, including field research. Also, during the program, there are opportunities to communicate with the alumni of Rikkyo University and other social/cultural activities.

グローバル社会学の視点を通じて、これまでに気づかなかった人々の生活や暮らし、あるいは文化的・社会的事象を見出していく能力を身につけること。さらに、適切な説明や考察、ビジュアル資料の提示等を伴った英語による口頭発表を行い、自らの視点・発見を表現していく力を身につけると共に、ディスカッションを通じて他者と積極的に意見交換する力を高めることを目標とする。

日本での事前授業では、シドニーでの研修に向けての研究計画や渡航手続き等についての必要な準備を行う他、グループ・フィールドワークやプレゼンテーションなどを行う。現地での英語研修では、日本でのプレイスメントテストの結果に応じたクラスで英語の授業を受ける。また、リサーチ・プロジェクトに参加しながら研究調査を行う。その他、現地における立教大学卒業生らとの交流や企業訪問、さまざまなアクティビティにも参加する。以上を踏まえ、これまで自らが見ていなかった「他者」の「生」を見出し、その意義について仲間と議論を深めながら、自らの考えをグローバルな視点に立って発信していく力を身につけてほしい。
