【Course Objectives】

This course explores new perspectives for understanding various cultural phenomena in our daily lives through learning analytical theories and concepts of cultures.

【Course Contents】

We tend to consider that there are tangible entities such as “Japanese culture”, “Chinese culture” or “German culture” and so forth by using the phrase “cultural difference”. But do these “cultural differences” really have clear boundaries? How does this “culture” transfer through generations? How does it become a part of ourselves? Will these “cultural differences” disappear if the modern sciences cover our entire globe? This course explains cultural theories of anthropology and sociology which have been trying to answer these questions. In order to make this course engaging, we will discuss various personal experiences of different cultures and use image slides and videos.
