【Course Objectives】

This lecture guides students to learn how media communication has historically been developed and how deeply it is embedded in our lives in modern society from the multifaceted viewpoint of humanities and social sciences. Its aim is to make students deepen their understanding the historical development and socio-cultural significance of media and communication in human society and to foster the ability to critically understand the way of modern society from the viewpoint of media communication.

【Course Contents】

This lecture guides students to learn how media communication has historically been developed and how deeply it is embedded in our lives in modern society from the multifaceted viewpoint of humanities and social sciences. In particular, in our contemporary society, more and more communications are mediated by means of computers, i.e., computer-mediated communications, such as social media, e.g., SNS. In addition, our activities via media constitutes the social reality more and more substantially. This lecture pays careful attention to these societal changes with the expansion of network society and explores their significance to lead your deepening understanding on the formation of social relationships, social identity, nation-states, etc.
