【Course Objectives】

Students who complete this course should be able to understand the basic concepts and theoretical framework of family sociology and be able to understand family transitions during the industrialization process and be able to examine the Japanese family from an international perspective based on academic knowledge and evidence.

【Course Contents】

This lecture will provide an overview of family structure and relationships in the context of the wide-ranging social changes that have occurred since industrialization. It will also discuss specific family patterns from a cross-national comparative perspective. The lecture takes a comparative view of the family from Western and East Asian countries, taking into account working styles and welfare policies that significantly affect family life, in order to present a dynamic vision of family behaviors and family norms.
 This course will be conducted in both Japanese and English, with the language used during the lecture being Japanese and the materials and assignments being in English.
