In this course students explore concepts and subjects concerning media/cultural studies in contemporary South Korea. Students examine media discourse and representation with conceptual tools to better understand contexts and issues arising from gender, race, and class dynamics in contemporary South Korean society.
This is an intensive discussion-oriented course, in which students are expected to read academic texts, present individually/as a group, analyze media/pop culture products, collaborate for classwork, and actively discuss theoretical concepts, observations, and opinions every week.
