【Course Objectives】

Students will learn how to support and enhance the English communication skills of elementary and junior high school students through CIC community outreach activities in coordination with Rikuzentakata City, Iwate Prefecture, and the Toshima Ward school district located in Tokyo. Students will learn how to plan and conduct English language activities in taking into account of the students' age, language learning backgrounds, and interests. Students will be able to link language learning theory and practice.

【Course Contents】

This course will cover the planning, development, and implementation of English Camps, which are organized events focused on using English for communication. In-class sessions will focus on the creation of activities and mirco-teaching practice.

The English Camps will be conducted online with junior high school students in Rikuzentaka City, Iwate Prefecture, and on the Rikkyo University Ikebukuro Campus with elementary and junior high school students in coordination with the Toshima Ward school district. In this manner, English Camps will utilize technology as well as in-person contact to deliver authentic access to the use of English with school students. The planning and development stages will take place before the English Camps. Experiential learning debriefing sessions will take place after each English Camp.
