To learn how to understand, appreciate and analyze literary works in English.
We will read poems, short stories and a short play. The background of the writer and the text and methods of analyzing the text in each genre will be explained at the beginning. Students will be asked to read the text and prepare answers to the comprehension questions at home, which they will compare and discuss in groups during the class. This is a close reading course, so it is essential that students use a good dictionary to check the meaning of words they do not know. The lecture will be given in English, but students can discuss either in English or Japanese.
※Please refer to Japanese Page for details including evaluations, textbooks and others.
