【Course Objectives】

The purpose of this course is to develop understanding of communication and communication studies, especially in relation to language, linguistics, and pragmatics.

【Course Contents】

This course starts with exploring some general issues concerning “communication,” “academic discipline,” and “perspective,” and moves to deal with the basic frameworks of linguistics and pragmatics. Then, it presents an overview of the three models of communication, explores their distinctive characteristics, including their relationships with domains covered by language studies, and delves into micro-social processes and effects of communication.
