【Course Objectives】

This is an introductory course of the Translator and Interpreter Training Program, designed to develop foundational competencies for translators and interpreters. The aims of this course for students are 1) to understand what “translation” is (translation theory); 2) to acquire basic knowledge and skills to produce translation according to specifications; 3) to be able to utilize translation technologies including machine translation and CAT tools for specific purposes.

【Course Contents】

This course introduces a) the role as a mediator that translators have in intercultural communication; how to analyze the source and target text; b) basic skills for translation according to text types, the purpose of translation, and readers. Students work on translation assignments and share peer feedback about their translations.
