The aim of this course is to develop the competence to analyze a variety of sociocultural phenomena in modernity and beyond, on the basis of the semiotic framework.
The course starts with introducing the semiotic framework and moves to analyze a variety of sociocultural phenomena, such as the body, cosmology, time, space, city, number, color, dynastic empire, medicine, agriculture, kinship, animal, edibility, dwelling house, and so on, on the basis of the semiotic notion of “iconicity.” Then, the course explores an aspect of contemporary socioculture by appealing to sociologist Pierre Bourdieu’s notions of “symbolic capital,” “field,” “habitus,” etc., reconceptualized in terms of the semiotic framework introduced in this course.

記号論の枠組に基づき、現代社会文化、及びその他の様々な社会文化の多様な現象を分析する能力を身につける。
The aim of this course is to develop the competence to analyze a variety of sociocultural phenomena in modernity and beyond, on the basis of the semiotic framework.
まず記号論の枠組を概観した後、特に類像（icon）という記号論の概念に依拠して、様々な社会文化の多様な現象（身体、宇宙、時間、地理・空間、都市、数、色、王朝、病・医、農、学知、宗教、親族、動物、食、住居など）を分析する。続いて、同じく記号論の枠組に基づきながら、特に社会学者ブルデューの提示した諸概念（象徴資本、フィールド、ハビトゥスなど）を参照し、現代社会の文化様態の一端を考察する。
