1. To enable students to use the basic theory and concepts of nonverbal communication to explain the properties, functions and meanings of nonverbal messages in real-world communication.
2. To enable students to observe nonverbal communication from a variety of angles and consciously apply what they have learned in the midst of real-world communication.
The role of nonverbal messages delivered through body and hand gestures, facial expressions, gaze, paralanguage, physical contact, interpersonal distance and other non-language methods is just as critical to interpersonal communication as content and volume. This course will lead students to explore the meanings of nonverbal messages not found in any dictionary by considering the theory and concepts of various nonverbal methods of communication and of communication itself, and observing and analyzing the use of those methods in actual communication.

１）非言語コミュニケーションに関する基本的な理論や概念を用いて、実際のコミュニケーションにおける非言語メッセージの特性・機能・意味を説明できるようになる。
２）実際のコミュニケーション状況において、非言語コミュニケーションをより多角的に観察したり、自覚的に実践したりできるようになる。

対人コミュニケーションにおいて、身振り、手振り、顔の表情、視線、周辺言語、身体接触、対人距離など、ことば以外の手段によって伝えられる非言語（ノンバーバル）メッセージが果たす役割は質、量ともに非常に大きい。本科目は、さまざまな非言語的伝達手段とコミュニケーションに関する理論・概念を考察し、それらを用い実際のコミュニケーションを観察、分析することで、辞書には載っていない非言語メッセージの意味を探っていく。
