The goal for this course is for students to learn basic knowledge in scholarly fields related to globalization and language issues, and master the core skills for applying this knowledge to analysis of specific events.
What is globalization? What (and who) is behind it? What is the ideology that drives globalization? How does it manifest itself in national and regional language policy? How does that policy affect (or force changes to) individual languages? This course will introduce problems of this nature as well as specific examples of them, and students will diachronically, synchronically and introspectively observe the depth and true nature of issues related to globalization and language, then put their observations into practice academically.

グローバル化と言語の問題に関わる学問分野の基礎知識を習得し，習得した知識を具体的な事象分析に応用できる基盤的能力を身につける。

グローバリゼーションとはなにか。なに（あるいは誰）がそれを主導しているのか。グローバル化を推進するイデオロギーとはなにか。それは国あるいは地域の言語政策にどのように現れているのか。そしてそれによってそれぞれの言語はどのような影響を受けて（あるいは変化を強いられて）いるのか。そのような問題を提起し，具体的な事例を取り上げながら，グローバル化と言語に関わる問題の深層／真相を通時的・共時的・内省的に考察し，その考察を学術的に実践する。
