Learn what kinds of challenges exist in the actual practice of teaching Japanese as a foreign language, and learn and gain the ability to use practical methods for addressing those challenges and resolving problems. In addition, gain the ability to provide support for learning disabilities by using the example of dyslexia, which presents significant obstacles to understanding language, to learn methods and strategies for attending to the needs of a diverse array of language learners.
Actual examples will be used to introduce the kinds of challenges that currently exist in the actual practice of teaching Japanese as a foreign language. In addition, each and every student will search for ways to resolve these problems and share them with each other in an effort to help them master methods, teaching strategies and ideal attitudes for flexibly responding to problems they face when they actually become Japanese language teachers. The instructor has proactively scheduled simulations, fieldwork and the like in addition to lectures in an effort to help students master the ability to respond to these situations practically.

外国語として日本語を教える現場にはどのような課題が存在するのかについて学び，実践的にその課題に取り組み，問題を解決していく方法を知り，それが使えるようになる。また，近年増加している学習障害，特に言語理解に重大な問題を抱えるディスレクシアについて取りあげ，多様な学習者のニーズに対応する方法やストラテジーについて学び，実際に支援ができるようになる。また、言語文化政策の観点から日本語教育についても考え、ソフトパワーとしての日本語教育について自分の言葉で語れるようになる。

実際の日本語教育の現場では，現在，どのような問題が存在しているのかを，実例をあげながら紹介していく。さらに，参加者個人個人が，その問題を解決する方法を模索し，みんなでそれを共有していきながら，実際に日本語教員になったときに，柔軟に目の前の問題に対応していくことができる方法，教授ストラテジー，持つべき態度（attitude)などを身につけていく。同時に、言語文化政策としての日本語教育についても他国の事例を挙げながら説明し、ソフトパワーとしての日本語教育の役割を紹介する。実践的な対応力を身につけるため，講義だけでなく，シミュレーションやフィールドワークなどを積極的に取り入れて授業を展開する。

学期中に２つのテーマでプレゼンテーションを課す。与えられた課題に対して，自分独自の視点から取り組み，オリジナリティのあるプレゼンができるよう準備をすること。

この授業は、２回のプレゼンテーションを含め、シミュレーション活動、グループディスカッションなどを積極的に取り入れて実施する。受講者には、すべての活動に自発的かつ積極的に参加する態度が強く望まれる。パワーポイントを用いた講義も実施するが、原則として教師と学生、学生同士のインターアクションによって授業が成立する。
プレゼンテーションやレポートについては、次回の授業でフィードバックを実施する。また、必要に応じてリアクションペーパーの提出を求めるが、それに対しても次回の授業でフィードバックを実施する。
また、レポートやプレゼンテーションの課題の周知や資料の配付は、すべてBlackboardを通して実施するため、受講者は毎回 授業前にBlackboardを確認すること。
