【Course Objectives】

The objective of this course is to achieve an accurate understanding of the area concerning “governmental mechanisms” within the system of Constitutional Law. Students are expected to understand problems on their own and cultivate the ability to develop persuasive arguments using the accumulated judicial precedents and theories as resources.

【Course Contents】

The classes will lecture about how individual court precedents and the debates between opposing theories have been discussing any specific problems while taking care not to neglect a perspective of the overall design of government institutions established by Japanese Constitutional Law. The classes will also cover highly abstract theoretical problems within a scope of specific interpretation and relevance but proceed while always keeping in mind the linkages between the two. Comparative law will also be interwoven to highlight certain aspects when appropriate.
