【Course Objectives】

The course aims to (1) provide students with specific knowledge of the key issues debated among intellectuals in the post-World War II period and (2) equip them with general research methods in the field of political thought and intellectual history.

【Course Contents】

This course analyses various debates by post-war Japanese thinkers on the political system, social structure, modernisation and democracy, and studies their political background and intellectual environment. It will also consider how the study of past thought can be useful in examining contemporary political issues.
