【Course Objectives】

The goal of this course is to comprehend the objectives and underlying principles of behavior exhibited by political actors.

【Course Contents】

Contemporary society comprises individuals and groups who possess a wide range of opinions and preferences. As a result, when engaging in decision-making, the challenge of aggregating a diverse set of demands is of paramount importance. This course will provide participants with the necessary knowledge to comprehend the interactions between political actors in contemporary Japanese politics.

At the beginning of each class, we will pose questions such as, "What is the rationale behind the declining voter turnout in most established democracies?", "Why do legislators switch political parties?", and "Why do political parties split?" and endeavor to discover the answers by utilizing knowledge on the underlying principles of behavior exhibited by political actors.

Please note that the topics pertaining to political institutions will be covered in "Political Process 2," which will be held during the autumn semester.
