The objectives of this course are to examine the interpretation and ideal practice of Japanese Constitutional Law within the context of a comparison to constitutional systems in other countries and to clarify the position and problems faced by Japanese Constitutional Law while deepening the students’ understanding of the study of constitutional law.
The classes will engage in a comparative review of constitutional systems to focus on the major problems in human rights theory and polity theory while keeping in mind a comparison of the vertical strands of the historical development of the constitutional system and the horizontal strands of contemporary international development. Classes will focus on the countries which are typically used for comparison (England, America, Germany, and France) in conventional Comparative Constitutional Law.

日本国憲法の解釈・実践のあり方を，他国の憲法体制との比較のなかで検討し，日本国憲法の立ち位置や抱える問題などを明らかにするとともに，憲法学のより深い理解へとつなげる。

憲法体制の歴史的展開をタテ糸に，そして現在の国際的展開をヨコ糸に，「タテ」と「ヨコ」の比較を念頭に置きつつ，人権論・国家組織論における主要問題をテーマとして憲法体制の比較検討を行う。従来の比較憲法学における主要比較対象国であったイギリス・アメリカ・ドイツ・フランスを中心に取り上げる。
