This class aims to develop your understanding of the basic concepts of ODR (online dispute resolution)
ODR (Online dispute resolution) is the use of information and communications technology to help disputants find a resolution to their disputes. With the digitalization of society and the limitation of face-to-face communication, it is expected to be a new approach to dispute resolution. In this class, we will learn about the global discussion of ODR and examples of social implementation. Then we will learn about the current policy development of ODR in Japan. In the second half of the semester, students will have the opportunity to participate in online mediation using the ODR platform and VR devices.

This interactive class will require group research, discussion, and role-plays. You may have to work outside of class for the group project. Participation in the class discussion is valued, attendance, class participation, and written assignments are the core evaluation components.
As this is an advanced class of "Dispute Resolution," Students who are interested in taking "Online Dispute Resolution" are recommended to "Dispute Resolution" in the spring semester.
