【Course Objectives】

The objectives of this seminar are to acquire a basic knowledge about American politics and diplomacy, and to improve the students’ presentation and debating skills

【Course Contents】

In this seminar, students will study American politics, diplomacy, and international relations. The seminar will have students read texts about American foreign relations including Japan-US-China relations, Asian-Pacific international relations, and Japan-US relations, as well as the Biden administration's policies at home and abroad. The attendees will engage in a discussion based on summaries provided by pre assigned students. Each session will assign a considerable amount of reading, so this seminar requires an active level of participation. The joint workshop with Prof. Shoji's seminar of Gakushuin University, and the triparitite workshop with Prof. Oyane's seminar of Doshisha Univ. and Prof. Wada's seminar of Aoyama Gakuin Univ. are scheduled to be held.
The seminar discussions will likely prove to be a good opportunity for students to express themselves, cultivate and improve the ability to debate with others. Furthermore, please note that the seminar is also scheduled to use English language literature.
