In this course, students will read closely the original text of A. A. Milne's The House at Pooh Corner (1928) in a seminar style, with the objective of strengthening basic English reading comprehension skills and cultivating ways of thinking that interpret children’s literature works from a critical perspective, as well as presentation skills to communicate these interpretations.
The House at Pooh Corner (1928) is a sequel to A. A. Milne's Winnie the Pooh, published in 1926. The setting remains the same from the previous work, with the author’s son Christopher Robin and his stuffed bear living with his friends in the Hundred Acre Wood, but the sequel suggests that Christopher Robin has grown up and that he must leave the Hundred Acre Wood at the end.
The course will be a close reading of the original text of the work in a seminar style based on presentations by the participants and discussion by all participants, which will not only train English reading comprehension skills, but will also help participants to understand the various themes depicted in the novel, such as the importance of loose ties with people you don’t easily understand and the importance of a sense of belonging, and literary rhetoric that expresses the nuanced, subtle feelings of the mind.

この授業では、A. A. ミルンの『プー横丁にたった家』（1928）の原文を演習形式で精読し、基本的な英語読解力を強化するとともに、児童文学作品を批評的な観点から解釈する思考方法と、それを伝えるプレゼンテーション能力を涵養することを目標とします。
In this course, students will read closely the original text of A. A. Milne's The House at Pooh Corner (1928) in a seminar style, with the objective of strengthening basic English reading comprehension skills and cultivating ways of thinking that interpret children’s literature works from a critical perspective, as well as presentation skills to communicate these interpretations.
『プー横丁にたった家』（1928）は、A. A. ミルンが1926年に発表した『くまのプーさん』の続編です。作者の息子クリストファー・ロビンと彼のくまのぬいぐるみが百エーカーの森で仲間達と暮らしているという設定は前作から変わりありませんが、続編ではクリストファー・ロビンの成長が示唆され、最後に彼は百エーカーの森を出て行かなくてはならなくなります。
この作品の原文を受講者による発表を基盤とした演習形式で精読し、また参加者全員で内容についてディスカッションすることで、英語読解力の訓練をするとともに、本作に描かれたさまざまなテーマ――分かり合えない相手との緩やかな紐帯の重要性、居場所の必要性、細やかな機微をいかに表現するかのレトリックの工夫など――について批評的な観点から意見を発信できるようにします。
