This course introduces some basic concepts and ideas of linguistic anthropology. Getting familiar with four key terms (multi functionality, language ideologies, practice and indexicality), students learn that language, culture and social relations are so intertwined that they should be studied in connection with one another. Classes will be weekly delivered online via videos on-demand.
Topics surrounding language and society and basic concepts of linguistic anthropology will be introduced during the course, mainly based on Laura Ahearn's book *Living Language: An Introduction to Linguistic Anthropology* (3rd. edition, 2021).
※Please refer to Japanese Page for details including evaluations, textbooks and others.
