【Course Objectives】

In this course, students critically examine the meaning of the terms "democracy" and "liberal arts" from various perspectives, and learn how these concepts are connected to the society we live in and our daily activities. We will also discuss the concept of democracy and the value of the liberal arts as a process of understanding social issues. Throughout the course, students will actively seek actions to solve the social issues and rediscover their own roles as "citizens”.

【Course Contents】

This course aims to help students acquire the sense of citizenship through understanding the community and the ability to engage with it. The course will focus on case studies of various social issues in Japan and abroad. In the course, students will engage in discussions and presentations about the challenges of democracy and the role of liberal arts studies. By implementing peer learning approach, students reflect upon their own opinions, share them to others, and learn from their fellow students.
