【Course Objectives】

This course will be taught in English, under the Top Global University initiative. It aims to raise students’ awareness and interest in the background of global social issues and conflicts, and to develop their ability to analyze such issues from local people’s perspectives.
We will analyze issues concerning development that places emphasis on rapid economic growth. Also, students will have the opportunity to learn about the importance of social development and peace building, about guiding principles and activities of international non-governmental organizations (NGOs) as promoters of social development, and other valuable community-based approaches.

【Course Contents】

During the course, invited non-Japanese lecturers will not only introduce facts about conflicts and social problems in their countries, but will also present about the linguistic and cultural diversity in them. Besides them, a Japanese guest lecturer, who is committed to solving social issues at the grassroots level in developing countries, will discuss the philosophy and practice in their societies.
Students will have the opportunity to deepen their understanding of global social issues and peace-building and broaden their knowledge of the role of NGOs in social development by interacting with experienced lecturers through class discussion and collective brainstorming.
