【Course Objectives】

This lecture will take up the history of Germany in the 20th century and its current problems after experiencing a turbulent history: From the defeat of World War II to the division of East and West Germany, the Cold War, the construction of the Berlin Wall, the collapse of the wall, and the reunification of Germany.

【Course Contents】

After World War II, East- and West Germany spent more than 40 years in different political systems under the Cold War and then reunified in 1990. In 1990s the economy stalled and declined to the point of being called the sick in Europe, but after several reforms and the euro crisis, it has increased its economic and political presence in Europe. This lecture will take up such postwar history of Germany. Parts of the class contents are subject to change.
