【Course Objectives】

In this course, students will understand Korean-speaking society through the films dealing with Koreans home and abroad, n Colonial Korea, North and South Korea, Japan, and other global societies.

【Course Contents】

Films effectively expresses the ideas and forms of various ethnic groups and social groups. In this course, we will discuss the history and theories of industry, political and social meaning, and aesthetic characteristics of "Korean Cinema." The themes will be discussed in the class include the representation of historical memories such as the Japanese colonial occupation, war and national division, democratization, and contemporary social issues such as North Korean refugees and class conflicts, gender discrimination and immigration through keywords such as women and family, food, Korean style, and globalization we will introduce the history, trends, and cultural identity of Korean society depicted in films.
