【Course Objectives】

This class focuses on gender issues and economic development in the Global South countries. We address the research achievements of feminist scholars on various issues such as female workers in export sectors, population policies, migration, multiple burdens of women in households, and women’s empowerment. Moreover, we invite four scholars of gender studies who have various research experiences in the Global South countries. Our goal is to attain knowledge and perspectives as follows. 1) Feminist theories on society and economy, 2) Gender and related issues in Asian Pacific regions, 3) knowledge of local societies in Asian Pacific regions, 4) Understanding of Others and reflection on gender issues in our surroundings.

【Course Contents】

We address feminist theories on the global economy and its historical development. Students learn about the political and economic changes, gender issues, recent economic growth, and the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic in countries of Southeast Asia, South Asia, and Oceania.
