The goal of this lecture is for students to understand the historical transition of Western music from ancient times to the present. Students will regard sounds and music as art form with its own logic and systems.
Lectures. We will discuss the most important technical terms and basic concepts of Western music history from a historical perspective. In each class, students will actually listen to the music and provide analysis while using the musical score. Musical ability (practical, musical grammar, etc.) does not matter, but active interest and motivation are essential. As we will focus on theoretical aspects in particular, we hope that you will try to confront music as a scholar. We will consider the characteristics of the music of each period (ancient, medieval, renaissance, baroque, classical-romantic, turn of the century, modern) while discussing the following topics.

古代から現代まで、西洋音楽の歴史的変遷を理解するとともに、日常的に身近に聞いている音や音楽を、自らの論理と体系を持つ生命体として捉える。

講義。西洋音楽史の最重要な専門用語や基本概念を歴史的な視点から論じる。毎回の授業では音楽を実際に聴き、楽譜を用いながら分析を加える。音楽的能力（実技、楽典等）は問わないが、積極的な関心と意欲は必須。とくに理論的な側面に重点を置くので、学としての音楽との対峙を想定してほしい。下記のようなトピックを論じつつ、各時代（古代、中世、ルネサンス、バロック、古典・ロマン派、世紀転換期、現代）の音楽の特徴を考察する。
