This course will use significant films dealing with Western classical music composers to acquaint students with the life and works of the composers and understand the transition of music history.
Through lecture and appreciation, students will consider the characteristics of the films (arts or entertainment films, documentaries, etc.) and discuss how the composer is depicted and which music works are used and how.

西洋クラシック音楽の作曲家を取り扱った映画を糸口として，当該作曲家の生涯と作品に親しみ，音楽史の流れをも辿る。
This course will use significant films dealing with Western classical music composers to acquaint students with the life and works of the composers and understand the transition of music history.
講義と鑑賞。映画自体の特徴（芸術・娯楽映画，ドキュメンタリー等）を踏まえつつ，当該作曲家がどのように描かれているか，どのような作品がどのように用いられているのか考察する。作曲家の生涯と作品の概観を鑑賞前に行う他，映画をいくつかの場面に区切り，掘り下げた解説を加える。映画の中では，作曲家は「（英雄伝や悲劇の）主人公」としての性格が強調されているが，学術的な音楽史書においても，また当時および現代の実社会においても，作曲家像は実は史実と逸話が交錯したところに形成されているのだという事実を再確認したい。
