Students will learn about the role of chemistry in phenomena that occur in the natural world, substances and materials used in daily life, and environmental and energy problems. Students will also create an intellectual foundation to think about the future of the earth and human life while feeling close to nature.
First, we will outline the important issues in discussing chemistry, namely, atomic structure, the periodic table, chemical bonds, and chemical reactions. After that, students will learn the relationships between the earth/human life and chemistry on the subject of the global environment such as air and water, energy such as fossil fuels, familiar substances and materials such as plastic, and biological substances related to life and health.

自然界で起こる現象や，生活の中で利用される物質・材料，環境・エネルギー問題などにおける化学の役割について学ぶ。自然を身近に感じながら地球と人間生活の未来について考えていくための知的基盤をつくる。

まず，化学に関して考察する上で重要な事項，すなわち原子構造・元素周期表・化学結合・化学反応などについて概説する。その後，大気・水などの地球環境，化石燃料などのエネルギー，プラスチックなどの身近な物質・材料，および生命・健康に関わる生体関連物質を題材として，地球や人間生活と化学との関係について講義する。
First, we will outline the important issues in discussing chemistry, namely, atomic structure, the periodic table, chemical bonds, and chemical reactions.
