【Course Objectives】

The aim of this course it to gain basic knowledge of Japanese politics with a focus on key policy issues in welfare, work, and family with a comparative perspective.

【Course Contents】

This course investigates Japanese politics in the postwar era, focusing especially on why and how Japan's social protection system evolved with a comparative perspective. The course offers an in-depth exploration of postwar political institutions and the policymaking process. It draws attention to key policy issues including work and welfare, family, gender, immigration, and local government. The goal of this course is for students to deepen their understanding of Japanese politics and widen their perspectives, thus allowing them to become an informed citizen of a democratic society.
