The aim of this course it to gain basic knowledge of Japanese politics with a focus on key policy issues in welfare, work, and family with a comparative perspective.
This course investigates Japanese politics in the postwar era, focusing especially on why and how Japan's social protection system evolved with a comparative perspective. The course offers an in-depth exploration of postwar political institutions and the policymaking process. It draws attention to key policy issues including work and welfare, family, gender, immigration, and local government. The goal of this course is for students to deepen their understanding of Japanese politics and widen their perspectives, thus allowing them to become an informed citizen of a democratic society.

この授業の目標は、日本政治に関する基礎的な知識を習得し、国際比較の視点から福祉・雇用・家族の政策課題を見つけ出すことにある。
The aim of this course it to gain basic knowledge of Japanese politics with a focus on key policy issues in welfare, work, and family with a comparative perspective.
この授業では戦後の日本政治の流れを踏まえた上で、日本の福祉国家がなぜ、どのように形成されてきたのかを国際比較の視点を用いながら検討する。まず政治的な決定に関わっている行為主体（アクター）と政治制度の役割と機能を紹介し、次に政策がどのようにつくられているのか、有権者は選挙と選挙の間の政策づくりにどのようにかかわることができるのかを明らかにする。最後に社会保障や働き方に関する具体的な政策課題に基づき、アクター間の連携や制度の相互補完のあり方を取り上げる。本授業を通じて受講生は、日本政治に関する知識を深め、有権者としての視野を広げ、民主主義社会の主体的な市民となることを目指す。

All the students are expected to come to class having read all the assigned readings and ready to actively participate in discussions. In order to stimulate discussions and deepen one's understanding of the material, students may be required to conduct supplementary research. Students are encouraged to follow daily news and keep up with current affairs.
事前に課題文献に目を通し、授業内でのディスカッション等に積極的に参加できるよう準備をしてくることが期待される。課題文献や資料の理解を深めるために、授業時間外に自主的な学びが必要となることがある。授業では時事的な話題に言及するので、日常的にニュースや新聞に目を通す習慣をつけることを推奨する。
