Nowadays tourism as travels for pleasure is not just behaviors in leisure time but complicated phenomena, which is affected from society, culture, economy, and nature etc. -- and vice versa. The goal of this course is to understand various viewpoints for discussing tourism as academic studies.
We will outline the basic knowledge and topics on tourism studies, highlighting several high-interest social phenomena and introducing how they have relations with tourism studies. Instead of the systematical theories, students are expected to learn the diversities of aspects for discussions concerning relationships between various social phenomena and tourism.

楽しみのための旅行である観光は、現代では単に余暇の行動ということを超えて社会、文化、経済、自然等のさまざまな影響のもとにあり、また反対に観光がそれらに影響を与えることもある複雑な現象である。そのような観光を学問として捉える多様な視点について学ぶ。

観光学の基本的な知識を伝えた上で、現代社会において関心の高いテーマを手掛かりに、それらがどのように観光と関わり、観光学ではどのような議論がなされているのかについて紹介する。体系的な理論よりも、さまざまな社会現象に観光がどのように関係しているかについて考えるための、切り口の多様性を理解することに主眼を置く。
We will outline the basic knowledge and topics on tourism studies, highlighting several high-interest social phenomena and introducing how they have relations with tourism studies. Instead of the systematical theories, students are expected to learn the diversities of aspects for discussions concerning relationships between various social phenomena and tourism.
