【Course Objectives】

Students will learn that university study is the basis for understanding social reality and identifying issues. The course also aims to provide students with the perspectives, attitudes, and basic skills to engage with and work on social issues through a service learning (citizenship education) approach.

【Course Contents】

This course is offered as part of the Rikkyo Service Learning (RSL) subjects, which aims to help students acquire the sense of citizenship through understanding the community and the ability to engage with it.
In the first half of the class, students will learn about the history of Rikkyo University, the community where they will spend the next four years, its founding spirit, and the role and position of service learning.
In the second half of the class, students will look at themselves as members of society and consider what kind of commitment they can make to realize a better society, based on the question, “Is Japan at peace?” By looking into a variety of social issues, both large and small, students will gain a multifaceted view of the connection between themselves and society, from the international community to the local community. The course emphasizes the importance of learning attitude in order to take action to solve each issue, as well as verbalizing and visualizing their learning outcomes.
