To understand the characteristics of horsemanship and experience the enjoyment of the sport, the objective of this class is for students to acquire the fundamental skills and basic knowledge of the sport while interacting with horses.
Horsemanship is one of the few sports that involves live animals. With the cooperation of the athletic association equestrian club staff, lectures will be carried out on horsemanship and students will deepen their understanding of horses and build relationships of mutual trust while riding on horseback as practice. In addition to horseback riding, students understand that horses are not vehicles but are partners with emotions, and learn the importance of rapport and communication with horses that do not speak words. In order to properly understand horsemanship, as preparation for horseback riding, students start by learning to brush the horse, attach the bridle and saddle, and walk from the stable while leading the horse. During riding practice, the objective is to go around the slalom course at a walking gait while communicating with the horse.

馬術は，生き物である動物と共に行う数少ないスポーツの一つである。体育会馬術部スタッフの協力を得ながら，馬術に関する講義と， 実践としての騎乗を実施する中で馬への理解を深め信頼関係を築いていく。また，騎乗練習ばかりでなく，馬は乗り物ではなく感情をもったパートナーであることを理解し，言葉を発しない馬との触れ合いやコミュニケーションをとることの大切さを学ぶ。正しく馬術を理解するために，騎乗前の準備として，馬にブラシをかけ頭絡や鞍をつけ，厩舎から馬を出して人間と一緒に歩く曳馬などを学ぶことからスタートする。騎乗の練習では，馬とコミュニケーションをとりながら常足（なみあし）で、スラロームコースを回ることを目標とする。

【場所】立教大学富士見総合グランド馬場
危険のない様に最善の注意を払うが，大きな声を出さないなどの指導者からの指示を十分に守ること。
【参加費】31,725円
参加費には保険料・施設利用等を含む。原則として現地集合・現地解散なので交通費は含まれない。その他，実習地で費用が必要な場合があるので，必ず事前ガイダンスで確認すること。また，事前および授業期間中の連絡は立教メールを用いて行うので，必ず立教メールを常に確認できるような状態にしておくこと。
【事前ガイダンス】
どちらかのオンラインガイダンスに必ず出席すること。両日のどちらかに出席できない場合には，担当の後関（goseki@rikkyo.ac.jp）まで 連絡すること。

履修登録後にどうしても辞退しなければならない理由が生じた場合には、辞退理由書の提出と、担当者の後関との面談を行い、辞退の可否が審議される。また、履修登録後では、たとえ授業に出席しなくても、その参加費は原則として全額を支払わなければならない.
【履修登録の留意点】
履修登録後の辞退は認められない。やむを得ない理由で参加を取消す場合には，教務事務センター（池袋・新座）に申し出て，必ず「辞退届」を提出すること。その後，担当教員との面談を経て辞退が認められた場合には，原則として,キャンセルポリシーに基づき参加費を返金する。なお，辞退が認められた場合でも，履修登録の取消はされず，単位未修得（D評価）となる。
＜キャンセルポリシー＞
授業開始日20日前から：参加費の20％
授業開始7日前から：参加費の30％
授業開始日前日から：参加費の40％
授業開始当日から：参加費の50%
無連絡での不参加及び授業開始後：参加費の100％
【その他】
・当年度4月に行われる定期健康診断を必ず受診しておくこと。
※健康診断を受診すると，保健室にて通学定期乗車券発行控に「済」印（健康診断が受診済みであることを証明する印）が押されるため，それを授業時に提示すること。
※定期健康診断を未受診の場合は，授業参加に支障をきたすため，早急に保健室の「追加の健康診断について」のページを確認して対応すること。
・事前ガイダンスには必ず出席すること。
・参加費収受等，実習開講に伴う一部の手続きを立教トラベルプラザに委託しており，直接連絡が入る場合がある。
・履修登録者が10名に満たない場合には開講しないことがある。参加人数によっては参加費が変わる可能性がある。
・その他、保険料等の改定で参加費が変わる可能性がある。
本科目は、担当教員の実務経験、または実務に従事するゲスト・スピーカーの招聘講義等を活かした授業である。
