The aim of this course is to help students understand and appreciate English movies.
The course will provide students with the opportunity to watch a variety of English movies, and to analyze and interpret these movies in terms of characterization, plot, communicative styles, and cultural customs and values. A primary goal will be to help students gain the listening skills and confidence to watch movies without the aid of subtitles. Students will also learn terminology and concepts in filmmaking.

Movie summaries, vocabulary lists, and movie reviews will be provided by the teacher as appropriate, to be read and studied by students in preparation for each class. Students will be expected to write a reaction paper after each movie on a theme provided by the teacher.
