【Course Objectives】

During these three years, by coming into contact with the actual conditions and issues occurring in the tourism and travel industry, which has been severely affected by the new coronavirus, and by thinking about how to solve these issues and how to tackle them through practical work, participants will acquire "practical views and ideas that can respond to changes in the environment and essential skills as a member of society", which will be useful in their respective workplaces after graduation.

【Course Contents】

Although there are many important issues that need to be tackled regarding the current situation of tourism in Japan, in this seminar, as a continuation of the topic in the spring semester, we will focus on "inbound tourism to Japan" and study the regional development by inbound tourism to Japan through group discussions and the theme of "tourism as a means to solve regional social issues".
The seminar consists of three steps conducted as one set: a lecture that introduces basic knowledge and specific examples for each topic, a group discussion to discuss the lecture topics in small groups, and a presentation of the results of the group discussion and review.
As specific topics for investigation, the seminar will cover shopping as the most important activity for foreign tourists to experience Japan, and we will come up with proposals to the Japan Shopping Tourism Organization regarding inbound shopping tourism in Japan. Rather than just a case study of past examples, participants will work on an actual case in real time to create a business plan that connects tourism/travel and solutions to social issues, then present it to the Japan Shopping Tourism Organization.
Through these activities, participants will acquire not only planning and proposal skills, but also practical and essential skills as businesspersons, such as teamwork and presentation skills.
