Students will have to decide a research theme that they want to be clear about. If it is difficult, students will study economic analysis about the world natural heritage in this class. As many regions make good use of area-specific resources as tourism resources, it is important to understand that value for local development using economics. In this class, we will focus on the world natural heritage and learn about how to estimate the value of the world natural heritage as a tourism resource. This viewpoint will enable students to analyze which region will be suitable for registering the world heritage in the future through an economic perspective.
It is significant for us to consider the impact of climate change on tourism because the aggravation of climate conditions results from inadequate human activities. Then, we will focus on the world natural heritage and analyze it. As a designated site of the world heritage in Japan by UNESCO will increase in the future, students consider a policy to maintain that site using knowledge of cost and benefit.

学生が目標を定め、研究と分析を進めていくことを第一とする。もしテーマが定まらない場合は、次の内容で進める。地域固有資源を観光資源と活用している地域は多く、地域発展のためには経済学を活用しその価値を正確に把握していることが重要である。そこで、世界遺産の価値に焦点を絞り、経済学を用いた観光資源としての世界遺産の価値の推計について学ぶ。このことを通じ、今後日本の世界自然遺産の登録に相応しい地域はどこなのか、経済学を通じ自らの視点で分析できるようになることを目標とする。

近年は気候変動問題が深刻化しており、その影響が観光にどのように影響を与えるのか考察することが重要である。そこで、観光と環境の関わりについて学び、地域の発展に観光が環境という視点からどのように貢献できるのかについて理解を深める。具体的には、廃棄物問題、エネルギー問題、持続可能なまちづくりといった観点から、観光資源としての環境と地域経済の関わりについて考察を深める。
