【Course Objectives】

From the viewpoint of tourism and through analysis of the social and cultural meaning of the hotel as the basic tourism facility, this course aims to understand the city as the node of mobility accompanied by globalization.

【Course Contents】

While analyzing social and cultural meaning created by proliferation and homogenization of Western-style facilities, such as hotels, and, in particular, emphasizing establishment and development of hotels in non-western societies (Japan and Asia), this course examines a number of case studies. By comparative analysis, it elucidates the nature of cultural space “hotels” in cities established as a consequence of globalization and localization brought on by the mobility that includes tourism.
