We will understand the methodology of social surveys, especially the processes from setting and planning the survey to gathering and organizing data.
Focusing on the technical aspects of social research, this course will explain various methods from survey planning and design to data collection and organization. For quantitative research, we will cover types of quantitative surveys, sampling, questionnaire design, fieldwork, editing, coding, and data cleaning; for qualitative research, we will cover interviews, participatory field approaches, rapport building, field note taking, and other data measurement, collection, and organization techniques. The course will cover techniques for measuring, collecting, and organizing data. The course will also cover topics related to recent social survey, such as experiments and issues facing the field.

社会調査を実施するための技法，とくに調査の企画・設計からデータの収集と整理に関する一連の過程を理解する。
We will understand the methodology of social surveys, especially the processes from setting and planning the survey to gathering and organizing data.
社会調査の技法的側面に注目し、調査の企画・設計からデータの収集と整理の諸方法について解説する。量的調査に関しては、量的調査の種類、標本抽出、調査票の作成、実査、エディティング、コーディング、データクリーニングについて、質的調査に関しては、聞き取り、参与観察フィールドへのアプローチやラポールの形成、フィールドノートの作成、その他のデータ測定・収集・整理の技法について扱う。また、社会調査における実験や、社会調査の現場が抱える課題など、近年の社会調査に関するテーマについても取り扱う。

資料や関連書籍を読み、不明な点がないか確認すること。学習した統計量の計算手順を復習し、その性質についての理解を定着させること。指定された文献等から、社会調査法に関する疑問点や論点を主体的に整理していくことが理解を深めることにつながる。
予復習にかける時間は1回の授業あたり概ね150分が目安である。
