【Course Objectives】

The objectives of this course are:
- To develop students understanding of the principles of research design in psychology
- To learn about current debates about research in the psychology field
- To increase students' ability and confidence to discuss psychology and academic topics
- To improve students' ability to use appropriate academic and research vocabulary
- To promote critical thinking about research methods and introduce best practices for research

【Course Contents】

The course is designed for students at intermediate to advanced levels of English. Students will develop their abilities to use key terminology in psychology and academic research more broadly and to express their opinions on research topics. The course is intended to develop students' understanding of the principles of psychology research & experimental design and to help them critically evaluate existing research. Each week there will be a topic of research introduced and this will be followed by group discussions and short in-class exercises. During the course, students will complete short reaction papers on selected topics and two presentations covering research topics of their choice. By the end of the course, students should have improved their understanding of research practices, be aware of current debates in psychology, and be better at discussing their opinions in English. There is also the option for students to engage in short research projects as part of the course.
