Students will achieve mastery of academic research skills (e.g. conducting literature searches, writing a graduation paper, presenting) from critical reading of dance study texts, and analysis of aesthetics and artist strategies. This class focuses on contemporary dance which arose in the 1980s. The goal of this class is to understand its history and aesthetics and its social and political context.
Lectures will provide an introduction to contemporary dance and there will be discussion of dance pieces, with reference to videos. Students will read texts about dance studies and will present brief reports. In the second half of the semester, students will present on the aesthetics of a dance piece or artist in which they are interested.

ダンスについて書かれたテクストを批判的に読み解き、ダンス作品の美学や振付家の戦略を分析するプロセスを通じて、ダンス研究一般に通用する論文・研究発表の作法を身につける。本演習では、特に「コンテンポラリーダンス」を取り上げる。「コンテンポラリーダンス」は1980年代後半に登場し、すでに30年以上が経過している。本演習ではその歴史、美学、政治や社会との関わりを考察し、この現象を多角的に理解する。

本演習は、担当教員による導入（講義）、コンテンポラリーダンスに関連する文献の講読、作品鑑賞（映像）、学生による発表で構成されます。文献講読については、毎回担当者を決め、内容について発表してもらいます。また各自の関心に基づき、ダンスの作品や振付家の美学に関する分析を行い、それを発表します。
Lectures will provide an introduction to contemporary dance and there will be discussion of dance pieces, with reference to videos.
