Students read and promote their understanding of the representative chapters from Tao Te Ching.
Tao Te Ching is a text of only 5,000 characters, with its authorship and date of composition debated, but it is the most commented masterpiece of Chinese literature, a mysterious work that reflects, like a mirror, a path which any person, be it a warrior, a politician, a commoner, anyone aiming to achieve immortality, should follow. Students read the representative chapters from Tao Te Ching, and learn how Chinese people perceived the world, history and body through the contents of "like water, like females, like babies", while also comparing it to other ideas.
The class consists of the report from the person in charge of the day and whole class exchange opinions. The person in charge carefully reads their part, does research if needed, and gives an oral explanation in class.

『老子』の代表的な章を講読し、理解を深める。
Students read and promote their understanding of the representative chapters from Tao Te Ching.
『老子』は、著者も成立年代もはっきりしない、たった五千字という短い文章なのに、中国古典のなかで最も多くの注釈書が作られてきた名著であり、戦術家、為政者、庶民、不死を目指す者、だれが覗いても、その人に応じて進むべき道を映し出してくれる鏡のようなところのある、じつに不思議な書である。この『老子』のなかから代表的な章を選んで講読し、「水」のごとく、「雌」のごとく、「嬰児」のごとくあれ、というその内容から、中国人がいかに世界や歴史、そして身体をとらえようとしていたのかを、他の思想と比較しながら考察する。
授業は担当者の報告と全員の意見交換によって進めてゆく。担当者は担当箇所を精読して、必要に応じて調べ、授業時に口頭で解説する。
