The aim of this class is to understand various audiovisual experiences structurally, by acquiring a method of criticism and knowledge about film expression techniques.
We will analyze and examine what forms of expression have been created in audiovisual culture since the twentieth century. This class will focus mainly on films, but various performing arts, animation, manga, and so on will be added to discussion as necessary. When any "image" is presented, it is often accompanied by "sound." In this class, we will clarify the connection between such images and sounds from aesthetic, historical, and technical points of view.

映画の批評方法や表現技法についての知識を習得することで、さまざまな視聴覚体験を構造的に把握できるようになることを目指す。
The aim of this class is to understand various audiovisual experiences structurally, by acquiring a method of criticism and knowledge about film expression techniques.
主に20世紀以降の視聴覚文化において、如何なる表現が生み出されてきたかという点を分析・検討する。映画を中心に授業を進めるが、必要に応じて各種パフォーミング・アーツ、アニメーション、マンガ等も議論に加える。何らかの「映像」が提示されるとき、その映像は往々にして「音」を伴っている。本講義では、そういった映像と音との結びつきを美学的・歴史的・技術的見地から明らかにする。
