The course will focus mainly on broad technologies since the modern era and consider the relationship between the technologies and human's bodies, vision, and other aspects of human condition. According to this examination, students will acquire historical and relative viewpoints about the technological environment and the dominant value and worldview of the time.
Humans and the world they recognize are mediated by broad objects, instruments and technologies, which also condition individuals' actions and recognition. However, mediacy is not often recognized in everyday life. The course will focus mainly on broad technologies since the modern era and examine 1. how individuals' bodies, gestures and sense of vision have been conditioned by the technologies, the technological environment and the social formation that include them, and 2. how individuals' bodies related to the technologies and the environment are assembled in the social formation, touching on the concept of "governmentality" and "control". The films and animations that are helpful to this examination also will be introduced.

この授業では、主に近代以降の広義の技術を取り上げながら、技術と個人の身体や視覚のあり方などとの関係を考える。これを通じて、自らの時代における技術的環境や支配的な価値観、世界の見方を歴史的、相対的に思考する視座を獲得する。

人と人が認識する世界の間は、様々な物や道具、技術によって媒介されており、これらによって個人の行動や認識は条件付けられてもいる。しかし、その媒介性は日常においてあまり意識されない。この授業では、主に近代以降の広義の技術を取り上げながら、①個人の身体や身振り、視覚などがいかに技術や技術的な環境、またそれらを含む社会的な編成によって条件付けられてきたか、②個人の身体が、いかに技術や技術的環境と関係しながら社会的な編成の中に配置されるかを、「統治」、「管理」といった観点にも触れながら考える。また、これらを考える上で参考になる映画やアニメーションにも適宜触れる予定。
