Focusing on the concept of “animation and body ,” this course will overview the history of animation, primarily in the United States and Japan. While gaining basic knowledge of the history of animation, students will also deepen their understanding of the relationships among animation images, animation history, and the body.
The course will mainly overview the history of animation in the United States, focusing on the body, and, from there, explore the history of animation in Japan. The body in animation can refer to a variety of bodies, from the body of the characters expressed in the animation to the body of the creator making the animation as well as the bodies of the audience watching the animation. In this course, we will trace the history of animation through (1) focusing on analyzing how the body is represented through images in animation, (2) the relationship between the body of the creator making the animation with the images, and (3) the relationship between the animation and the people in the audience who watch it. Although the course will focus primarily on animation, it will also reference live-action film and its history as necessary.

「アニメーションと身体」をキーワードに、主にアメリカと日本におけるアニメーションの歴史を概観する。アニメーション史の基礎知識を身につけると同時に、アニメーションの映像、歴史と身体の関係について理解を深める。

主にアメリカのアニメーション史を身体に焦点化しながら概観し、派生的に日本のアニメーション史についても講じる。アニメーションにおける身体には、映像に映るキャラクターの身体はもとより、アニメーションを描く身体、アニメーションを見る観客の身体など、様々ありえる。本講義では、①アニメーション映像において身体がどのように表象されてきたかを中心に、②アニメーションを作る身体と映像の関係と③アニメーション映像とそれを見る観客の関係にも触れながら、アニメーションの歴史をたどる。なお、アニメーションを中心に扱うが、必要に応じて実写映画やその歴史にも触れる。
