【Course Objectives】

This course aims to teach students to:

• Develop a deeper understanding of wellbeing
• Understand resilience and its benefits
• Develop an understanding of the GEM approach to developing wellbeing and increasing happiness
• Assess the effectiveness of GEM principles
• Build confidence in expressing personal opinions and experiences
• Develop autonomy, creativity, critical thinking, and collaboration skills.

【Course Contents】

This course is based on positive psychology. It focuses on resilience and the teaching of GEM (Gratitude, Empathy and Mindfulness) principles in schools, professional sports associations, and in the workplace in Australia and New Zealand.
Resilience is what gives people the psychological strength to cope with stress and hardship. It is the mental reservoir of strength that people are able to call on in times of need to carry them through difficult times. GEM has been found to increase happiness and well-being levels in a wide variety of situations and contexts. This course will focus on the theory supporting the GEM benefits and apply the techniques in and out of class to test their effectiveness.
