1) To gain a bird's eye view of the academic and practical trends from modern urban planning to contemporary "machizukuri".
2) Understanding the differences in the background and mechanisms of "machizukuri" in each period and each case.
3) Based on the above understanding, apply this knowledge to our own practical activities for "machizukuri".
Although the concept of "machizukuri" first appeared in the 1970s, it is used in an extremely diverse range of meanings today. In this class, we will discuss dynamically why the concept of "machizukuri", including similar concepts such as urban planning and urban renewal, has become multifaceted, while relating it to changes in urban space and society. By introducing and explaining specific examples from various regions, we aim to recognize "machizukuri" as a realistic phenomenon and to apply it to practice as knowledge from the humanities and social sciences.

1）近代都市計画から現代のまちづくりに至るまでの学問的および実践的な潮流を俯瞰的に理解できるようになること。
2）各時代，各事例におけるまちづくりの背景やメカニズムの差異について理解できるようになること。
3）以上の理解にもとづいて，これらの知識を自らのまちづくりの実践活動に応用できるようになること。

「まちづくり」は1970年代に登場した概念ですが，現代ではきわめて多様な意味で用いられています。この授業では，類似する都市計画や都市再生などの概念も含めて，なぜまちづくりが多義的になったのか，都市の空間・社会の変化と関連づけながら，動態的に説明していきます。また，各地の事例を紹介しながら具体的に説明することで，まちづくりをリアリティのある現象として認識し，人文社会科学的な知として実践に応用することをめざします。
