【Course Objectives】

This course focuses on human rights. It begins by outlining the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, and looks at examples of rights violations. It then looks at the evolution and expansion of human rights, tracing the story from the issue of slavery to emerging views about LGBT and intergenerational rights. It further outlines the dimensions of the global human rights regime, based mainly on a series of focused treaties, UN bodies, international courts, and international NGOs. Then the course looks at the difficulties of measuring and comparing human rights records, using the case of women’s rights and the insights it provides.

【Course Contents】

Students will develop their English, autonomy, creativity, critical thinking, and collaboration skills. They will further develop their ability to:

• research and discuss the history and policy at the heart of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
