This course aims for comprehensive understanding of volunteers, NPOs, and cooperatives as civil society players, including their definitions, organizational forms, development processes in Japan, social functions, underlying systems, and management characteristics.
First, regarding volunteers, we will understand the meaning and role of volunteers from the example of disaster relief volunteers at the time of the Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake. Secondly, we will consider NPOs and co-operatives as civil society organizations and the legal system that underpins them. Thirdly, we will focus on their role in creating new communities, and discuss “citizen expertise” as a way of problem solving based on community creation. Fourthly, we will consider the characteristics of management of NPOs and cooperatives, including missions, fundraising, volunteer management, and methods of evaluating social value. And I recommend that participants also take Social Solidarity Economy in the second quarter of the fall semester.

市民社会の担い手としてのボランティア、NPO、並びに協同組合について、その定義、組織形態、日本における展開過程、社会的機能、基盤となっている制度、マネジメント上の特徴などに関して、包括的に理解することを目的とする。この授業を通して、市民社会を構成している組織や個人に関して一通りの理解を得ることで、将来、何らかの社会貢献活動に参加する際の準備となるだろう。
This course aims for comprehensive understanding of volunteers, NPOs, and cooperatives as civil society players, including their definitions, organizational forms, development processes in Japan, social functions, underlying systems, and management characteristics.
第一に、ボランティアに関しては、ボランティア元年と言われた阪神淡路大震災の時の災害ボランティアの事例から、ボランティアの意味や果たしている役割について理解する。第二に、市民社会組織としてのNPO、並びに協同組合の定義や基盤となっている法制度について検討する。第三に、NPOや協同組合が現代社会において必要となる理由として、その新しいコミュニティ形成の役割について注目し、コミュニティ形成を基盤とした問題解決のあり方として＜市民的専門性＞を論じる。そして、第四に、NPOや協同組合のマネジメントの特徴について、ミッション、資金調達、ボランティア・マネジメント、社会的価値の評価方法などにも触れる。なお、2年生以上は、秋学期第2四半期の社会的連帯経済論も併せて履修することをお勧めする。
